Hot Laps: Jessie Owens

Tell us about your racing background and what brought you into the Lucas Oil Regional Series: What brought me into the Lucas Oil Regional Series is that my dad owns a business called Xtreme Machine and Fabrication. His business builds Prolites, Mod Karts, RZR 1000 and RZR 170s. I was looking for a way to race that we could afford.

When you are not at the track, what can we find you doing? When I am not at the track you can find me at school, my dad’s shop, doing chores, or hanging out with my friends.

 How important is your family to your success and what roles do each of them play at the track? My family is very important to me in my success they are all very supportive; especially my dad because he spots for me and is always working on the RZR. My mom and sister are at every race they can make it to and are always cheering me on.

What drivers do you look up to/admire and why? Some drivers that I look up to the most are Mia Chapman and Trisha Wright. I look up to both of these because they are fast and amazing at what they do.

What advice to someone looking to start out on short course off road racing? Some advice to give to anybody that is wanting to start racing is to always make sure you are having fun doing it.

What/who is your biggest challenge on the track? My biggest challenge on the track is getting good lap times and staying consistent. My biggest competitors on the track are Travis Sallee and Ryder Chapman because they are both really clean drivers.

What qualities/skills make a driver successful? I think qualities that make a driver successful are having a good car and being smooth.

Any goals for next few years and beyond? Some goals for next years and beyond are to be fast, win some championships, and get some sponsors.
