Tell us about your racing background and what brought you to the Lucas Oil Regional Series:
I became interested in racing at a pretty young age, although it was several years before I was able to act upon it. Erik Jacobus of J.E.Racing used to live down the street from my family and when he began to race the Lucas Oil Regional Circuit with an Alumi-craft Pro Buggy, I had a chance to drive it and I was hooked. I decided it was time to go out on my own, so I bought a Ford Ranger and built a mini stock. I am fortunate that my racing hobby is one that blends well with my occupation I am a Diesel Mechanic so I work on all sizes and types of motor vehicles.

When you’re not at the track, what can we find you doing?
In my off hours, I can usually be found in my own garage at home working on my race cars either prepping them or making adjustments to make them faster.

What qualities/skills do you think makes a driver successful?
There are several elements that make for a successful driver. The first obviously is mechanical aptitude and hand in hand with that is patience, because you are going to be spending a lot of time on your vehicle. You also need absolute concentration and the ability to anticipate what might happen next. Finally, a sense of fair play and sportsmanship, the Lucas Racing organization is a very “Open Arms” community and needs to be respected and appreciated as such.

What is your advice to someone looking to start out in short course off road racing?
If I were to offer advice to anyone looking to make a start in short course racing, it would be to get thoroughly educated on the process before you begin. You will be making a significant investment in both time and money and although it’s worth every dime, every minute and every skinned knuckle, you need to know what to expect so you can give it your very best.

What/who is your biggest challenge on the track?
My biggest challenge in racing is someone who has also been my biggest mentor, Scott Johnson. He is an excellent driver and competitor and he is passionate about the sport to want to push other drivers to be their best. I’m grateful that he has taken me under his wing and I’m blessed to call him a friend.

Any goals for the next few years and beyond?
Next year I hope to race in two classes. In addition to my Mini Stock truck earlier this year I purchased an older Pro Lite chassis and I’m retrofitting it to conform to the Open V-8 specs. If it handles as well as I hope, I ultimately plan to upgrade to race it as a Pro Lite.

We know it takes a lot of support to race and you seem to backed by some great companies. Is there anyone you would like to thank for their support?
I would like to thank some special folks who have made a huge contribution to my racing. First, the Lucas Oil Regional staff and safety crew for giving us an enjoyable and safe environment to race. Second my sponsors such as Westech Performance, Lucas Oil, Trautwein Design and Fab, General Tire, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Kartek, Hannemann Fiberglass and Racing Plus/Parker Pumper. Special thanks go to my family and friends who always come out to support me and of course my girlfriend Cindy.
